The Walking Dead

soupIt is both a marathon on AMC, and a description of my husband dealing with the flu.

I am elbow-deep in a pot of homemade chicken soup, but couldn’t be happier.

I have been making this for decades in a simple white enamel pot. potIt was never fancy, but has been used to ladle out love and warmth since the 1970’s.

My secret ingredient has always been saffron; those expensive delicate red threads that loan a hint of bright yellow, and make my guests go “hmmmm, what is that flavor”? It has been used in Spanish yellow rice for centuries; but in my family, it has always shown up in chicken soup.

Never really did enjoy going out for NY Eve, so today works out just fine for us.

Looking forward to enjoying so many wonderful bloggers out there in 2015.

Happy New Year. Be safe. The keyboard awaits.
