I picked a quote from the brilliant Jim Henson, in honor of the return of The Muppet Show next week. That show holds a special place in my heart.
There was no joy in the house that particular Christmas in the late 1970’s. My mother’s declining mental health and terminal cancer diagnosis loomed large.
When I came home to visit, the tension was palpable. I suggested that we watch The Muppet Show.
My siblings were teenagers, and not interested.
I convinced them.
Only 5 minutes into the show, there were smiles, there was laughter, there were traces of the joy we had lost to the complications of life.
I will always remember the moment.
I will always be a fan.
This is Day 2 of the 3 Day Quote Challenge. Thanks again to Rich and Judy for the nomination.

I love the Muppets. No matter how sad I might feel, they always make me feel better.
That was the whole point of my suggestion…it’s hard not to feel better watching, CM, I understand that my mother kept on watching the show after the holidays. ☺
That is very thought provoking as a parent.
It took a very wise man to have that kind of universal appeal, Vic, his puppets appealed to adults on a very different level. Thanks. ☺
Love the bonus quote by beaker😂
Meep. Meep. ☺
😂
See what I mean? ☺☺☺
Yup definitely ☺
The quote is great and so strangely true! A memory from the past!
Children absorb so much info just watching what we do as parents. They surely might forget what we say. You may be the current expert on that, Lynn. ☺
🙂
nice post
Thanks, Jim. A bit lighter was in order. ☺
Terrific quote, Van but an even better story of how that show brought your family together for a short while.
It really did help, George, thanks. It was important to remember that we all shared some happy times in that family. My mom lived almost 2 years past the 3 month prognosis she was given. ☺
The Muppets still inspire joy. 😀
They arrive on ABC next Tuesday, I don’t watch much TV beyond baseball, but I’ll tune in for this one. Memories. ☺ Thanks, Paul.
Have a great weekend, Van. :O)
Thanks, Paul…you, too !! ☺☺
I saw your bonus quote!!! So I commented on it! I must have missed your real quote and thought it was a picture!! no glasses on, I love that quote! I think is it very true and it seems kids do remember you and what you have done and how you have acted! But I do love the other quote ha ha, so cute!
Glad you could respond to both. Thanks, Lynn. ❤️
ha ha the one with the muppet is so funny and true ha ha
The original author is unknown, and the quote has been used a lot; I just love the look on Beaker’s face. ☺
yes!
☺☺
You’re right that even adults can enjoy it. 🙂 I used to watch The Muppets with my daughter and now watch it with my grandson. It never goes out of style and the messages are always playful and sweet.
To me, it was like Sesame Street meets Vaudeville. ☺
You’re right. The song and dance skits are our favorites.
It’s funny how very rarely these things can just unite us.
So true. Thanks, Jay. Love your Bill Murray avatar. ☺
I love this! 😀
❤️
This is genius!
I thought it was pretty great, Thanks.💕
Yes, Van, Jim Henson is a Maryland Terp greatless missed. He was finding his post-grad greatness when I was a student, and one day I stumbled upon a tribute to him on the steps of a big building on the quad. I climbed up, wondering what was going on, and ended up next to the podium, quite close to the puppeteer of honor, staring out over the quad and other students. Oh, this guy, I thought. Wow to us. 🙂
Very cool, Mark, I didn’t know of his Md. connection (only the rainbow one ☺). He was a visionary.
One or two Maryland grads went on to big things, Van. Just like Penn State. 😉
