Chair

The year our first child was born, we purchased two La-Z-Boy recliners, done in a warm, salmon-colored fabric.

That was 1983.

All in the Family. 1971-1979

We still have one.

It has become my version of the Archie Bunker chair, from the 1970’s sitcom All in the Family.

I honestly tried to give them away. When they became young adults, my children each received one of them.

We went about finding replacements. My husband chose a brown leather piece that still works for him.

I picked a chair/ottoman combination, in a color scheme that better fit my family room décor.

I pretty much hated it.

My daughter still has her chair. It is, of course, my favorite place to sit when I visit her.

Like me, she finds it incredibly relaxing.

Like me, she is known to fall asleep every time she settles into it.

We call it the “Ambien Chair.”

A few years ago, I found out that my son was not really using his.

He gave it back to me, saying he didn’t have room for it anymore.

I took it back. Willingly.

It is still structurally sound. It could be reupholstered.

It is worn with my very particular body imprint.

It fits me . Like a glove.

But, it is almost 33 years old. It might be time to let go.

Now, I am seriously looking to replace it.

It’s not going well.
