A dinosaur, a penguin and a rubber ducky.
Millions of voters in 100 countries were surveyed, and Hasbro has announced that 3 new tokens will be featured in the August 2017 edition.
The original plan was to replace the thimble. The survey revealed that the boot and the wheelbarrow were also unpopular, and had to go.
The more modern suggestions of a hashtag, cell phone, emoji of Mr. Monopoly did not poll well.
Our country’s leaders cannot claim a victory over health care this weekend, but Monopoly fans have spoken, and have been heard.
Just thought you might want to know.
Thank God for the veto votes. A hashtag?! The rubber ducky is kind of cute. In a rubber ducky kinda way. π³
It is, for sure.π¦ Animals seem to be the most popular icons for them.
It’s pretty bad when decisions about Monopoly are making more sense than those of the US Government. Who would have ever guessed? π
I know. It’s the news I chose to post this a.m. !!
π
I’m totally with you on this one! If there were an Electoral College for board games, I shudder to think what would happen. Hashtags and emojis on Monopoly boards, probably!

Exactly my thought.
I liked the boot and wheelbarrow.
The boot was my favorite.
Me too – both made perfect sense in that ‘moving along’ sort of way.

Good to know! β€
I thought it mattered, Ann.
As a sewist, I am sad about the thimble token. But at least the iron didn’t get the axe. π Oh, maybe they symbolically should have made one an axe!
Sorry to say…the iron was replaced by a cat, in the first vote taken a few years back.
Aghast! I have not played the game in a long time. The good news is my monopoly has those things.:) Future generations will never know π¦
I wish I had been more media savvy and had voted. I am not sure the result would have been any different, but I would like to have participated. I wouldn’t have voted for the hashtag, that much I am sure of.
I agree with you on the hashtag, Anthony. Thanks.
Thanks for the update, Van. I have to admit that I love the penguin and ducky. π
π§ Kinda cute.
I am over the moon about the ducky!!!! π
You are not alone, Val. π¦
The ducky is adorable. It still doesn’t hold a candle to the thimble, though.
You were a thimble fan…sorry for the loss, Peg.
I like the ducky. Duckies are awesome. Hate Monopoly though.
π¦ β€οΈ π¦
So good to know some people know their minds and playing monopoly brings back lots of family time memories of falling out who would have which Token.. π
Hope you have a great weekend Van.. xxx
Thank you, Sue. π
I never much liked the wheelbarrow. It was always too hard to handle. The duck sounds kinda cute!
I agree on the wheelbarrow…both in the game, and real life. Thanks, Miriam.
Oh yeah, in real life too … It’s not my best friend.
We left one behind in a home we sold years ago.
A gift to the new home owners!
I always liked the boot. My oldest son loves penguins so he’s happy with this news. We already own three sets of monopoly though so I’m not about to buy another.
Penguins, always popular. The animal tokens got the highest votes.
Brilliant marketing idea. I saw a notice somewhere that this was afoot, but didn’t click over to read the results. I would have bet that the dinosaur would make it. When my nephew was a kid he could recognize and name probably 15 different ‘saurs. I’m thinking that an ALL dino version would probably do extremely well with parents of little boys and with girls who love science.
These are all cute, but no thimble and no iron? WHAT is this world coming to? π Have they ever changed the hotels to look more like hotels instead of big houses?

Our kids’ generation were indeed obsessed with those dinos, especially this one chosen…the T Rex ! There were always cartoons, but Jurassic Park sealed the deal. Thanks, Madelyn.
My nephew was too young to see it when it came out (his mom was afraid of nightmares), but he loved it when he saw it a few years later, even though his dino obsession has abated somewhat. If he still played Monopoly today he’d probably want the rock star edition – with accurate guitar replication. π

So this is what they came up with, huh? Interesting. Well, at last they made a decision. Better than being in DC..:)
Thanks for letting us know..:)
So which one do you want to be now?
I’d opt for that T-Rex, George… a stronger presence, but no doubt, I’d have to fight for it.
You’re probably right, Van..:)
When you put it that way… What is wrong with this world?
No easy answer to that one. ??? Thanks.
I was hoping a ‘blogger’ may have appeared as one of those new parts. π
Hmmm…trying to picture that one, Hugh.
Just imagine a little Hugh being pushed around that board. π I wonder how many people would fight over being the bloggers, Van?
π
I always loved playing the boot but I have to admit, a dinosaur is WAY cooler! π
Isn’t it though ? Who wouldn’t want to play that kind of power symbol !!
Wow cool!
Animals rule !
oh yeah
That is interesting, although I can’t help noticing that vertebrates are being over-represented. What about an amoeba or a jellyfish?
Good point, Bun. They could be slinking along the board…
What no fish? No shark? No Big White Whale? Yeah the duckie I do like I must admit. I bet a wolf would go over well. Thanks for the update, Van. π β€
My pleasure, Amy. Beware of the wolf.
Prefer the dino. Cause umm… they rock? and can totally gobble up duckies!!
Lol but it’s not possible to NOT like the duckie.
Ha ha. I agree, Jainey. Thanks for the visit and comment.
Lol, I know, so important. I did hear the new choices on the news too. π β€
RIP boot, thimble, and wheelbarrow.
They lasted a long time, Kitt.
That they did.
I like the penguin.
So do I !
It reminds me of Opus. I loved me some Opus. π
