The Great Escape

Stormy has had it with show business.

The 1600 lb. Hereford escaped a live Nativity scene in Philadelphia yesterday. Twice.

The first time, the 7 year old cow was found heading south on Interstate 95 at about 2:30 am. Police cruisers surrounded her, and she was led safely back to Old First Reformed United Church of Christ in the Old City neighborhood.

Four hours later, police were summoned again. Stormy had reached  the 4th level of a parking garage attached to the Wyndham Hotel.

The 4th level.

The comments commenced. Code Moo. The City of Udderly Love. There was some talk of a conspiracy by Chic Fil A.

My favorite image was provided on the twitter account @PhillyPolice.

You know, you start your day saying “well, being a cop is a tough job, but at least I won’t have to catch a cow today.” But, wouldn’t you know it? You’re wrangling a bovine. Then you say, “Well, at least I’ll never have to do that again….”

Today, church officials announced that Stormy had been replaced by a smaller cow named Ginger, one they believe will not be able to escape the enclosure.

This is a wonderful story. Love Code Moo. We need more rebellious cows to show us just how delightfully absurd life can be.

Code Moo! LOL That’s quite a tale, thanks for sharing it! 🙂

    • There’s just something about livestock that always appeals to me, especially a Freebird like this one. Might be about my farmer ancestry ??

      • joey says:

Maybe. I’ve sure got the same feelings, partial to sheep. Swear I’ve been a shepherd. Or maybe a sheep. I don’t know how it works 😉

      • Sheep ? Did you see the other Nativity scene in the news ? A 2 year old dressed as a sheep decided to step out and pick up the Baby Jesus doll from the manger. The Blessed Mother wasn’t having it…she took her to the ground in a headlock to get the baby back.

      • joey says:

*gigglesnort* No, I did not! That’s a hoot!
Yes, I’ve got a serious affinity for sheep. I cannot remember a time when I did not feel they were kindred spirits. It’s odd. It’s not like I’ve spent a lot of time with sheep. I’m ridiculously happy in petting zoos.

  15. Ron Walker says:

I loved that story. It brought back memories I have as a cop, of trying to round up cows on the interstate, after an 18 wheeler transporting them overturned. We were on massive Harley motorcycles, herding them back to the accident scene and a replacement truck.

    Too funny !

Thanks for today’s entertainment, Van. The cow was hilarious. As the saying goes: “never work with children or animals.” I’ve worked with both as a photographer, but I’ve never had to deal with a stray cow.
    Best wishes,
    Rowena

  25. I do hope Stormy has found some post Christmas peace. 😊
