As most of the U.S. melts in a tropical heat wave, it’s important to remember the kind of winter we came through this past year.
As I found this photo of a frozen Dr. Zhivago, I wanted to express my sympathy for the passing of Omar Sharif, who died of a heart attack on July 10 at the age of 83.
Born in Egypt as Michel Demitri Shalhoub, of Lebanese and Syrian descent, he held degrees in mathematics and physics, and was a renowned, world-class bridge player.
He was discovered by the world in a supporting role in Lawrence of Arabia, was noted as the dashing romantic lead in Funny Girl, and went on to accumulate an impressive cinematic resume.
But to me, he will always be Zhivago.
Here he is, all thawed out.
Rest in peace, dear sir, you will never be forgotten.
I like the thawed version better, too! Very nice tribute, Van xo
Thanks, Kelly. He was the heart-throb of my pre-teen years. Our very own Leo DiCaprio !! 💕
Haha! Must bring back good memories for you! Hope you can bask in them a little longer 🙂
I was pretty young..I don’t even remember if movies were rated at the time. Some of it was pretty intense. And the ending…sigh.
I remember him in Funny Girl. Hard to believe he’s gone. Maybe you can watch some old movies and get all twitterpated and then have a cry fest! Haha!!!
Sounds like an evening !! ☺
There you go!
This is the first I’ve heard – of your heat wave and of his death. Such is the way of living overseas and never watching the news. (Which, by the way, is the reason I don’t comment on most of your posts about current events or pop culture. I don’t have an opinion on that of which I’m ignorant. :))
I get it, Julie, and thanks. 💕
Thanks for posting it. Didn’t know about his passing. Loved the movie.
I’ve had that theme music playing in my head all day. A lovely score for an epic love story. Memories. 💕
💕
What, Omar Sharif just died? I did not hear about that. Oh…Lately I always had the theme song of Doctor Zhivago playing in my head… interesting.
Me, too. Such a lovely, haunting piece. ☺
Yes… soooo romantic.
Omar Sharif…one very sexy man. RIP.
For sure, Kitt, something about the intensity in his eyes….
Yes!
Great reminder and memory, Van. 🙂
Thanks, Mark. ☺
A lovely tribute to a great actor. Hugs 🙂
Thanks, Teagan. ☺
Dr. Zhivago – oh do I remember watching that one. It was a one of a kind movie for me. Thanks for the walk down memory lane and your lovely tribute.
It was pretty epic for so many of us. Thanks, Amy.☺
Yes, for me too. He will always be Dr Zhivago… What an epic movie…
Agree. Thanks, Momma. ☺
I remember the movies, but also learned to play bridge with his book! I’d forgotten all about that. 🙂
He is very well known in the world of bridge…interesting, complex man. Thanks, Diana. ☺
Dr Zhivago …on my top 10 list of movies that influenced me in artistic ways …how handsome he was with his moody eyes !
He left a special mark on my adolescent heart too, Meg. Magical eyes, for sure, and a great intensity !! 💕
