Lion Tamer

Sometime in young adulthood, I got interested in Astrology.

Not sure why it took me so long. My family was so into all of it.

Tarot cards, astrological charting, palm reading, Ouija boards, levitation, etc.

The mysterious arts.

I never bought into those daily posts in the newspaper, forecasting your day. But the personality traits that are based on your sun sign, the alignment of the planets at the time of your birth, really hit home for me.

That is when I discovered that I had married the consummate Leo.

Born in mid-August, he fit every characteristic mentioned…both good and bad.

He also happened to be a first-born, with all of those traits in droves.

LeoWhen I checked my calendar, I also discovered that so many of my friends were born into Leo.  I might have been drawn to their regal nature.

My birth family fell into only two categories. Fire signs ( Leo, Sagittarius and Aries) were dominant. My mother and I were Sagittarians, born within the same week.

The second, Air signs (Gemini and Aquarius), were there to extinguish/control the flames. It made for a turbulent household.

In marriage, two fire signs can present a bit of a challenge, especially regarding control/power issues. Where there is fire, there is also passion. In more than 4 decades, it has never, ever been boring.

And the above title is misleading, no one ever really tames the lion. We just learn to give them the respect and admiration they desire. In turn, they provide a life of love and loyalty, fit for a queen.

Much like my post that addressed birth order personality trends, this one is not fact or  science, but fascinating to consider as we have just entered into the realm of Leo.

July 23- August 22

Warm wishes for the kings and queens of the astrological domain.

….. and liberal sprinkling of Librans in a social circle always helps to stabilize things! 🙂

  2. I’m a Sag too, my wife a Virgo. It’s made for some fiery times in our house as well. But 24 years in, the passion hasn’t waned, it’s grown. 😃

Hubby is a Sag. Van, I being an earth sign am sometimes besides myself with the flames this guy can ignite. Talk about opposites! There really is something to Astrology. Sure is!! 🙂

Hmm well let me nail my colours and say I think astrology Is great at selling newspapers. Indeeed, based on my marriage, she’s a Leo and I’m a saggitarian and we are as unfiery Pacific people who haven’t knowingly argued or sought control in 40 years. Exceptions that prove the rule or there’s no rule only nonsensical hocus pocus …! I’ll let other more astrologically attuned decide

I learned reading Tarot Cards and also went into astrology a bit. Deep enough to be flabbergasted how the stars can be read and how things are developing and unfolding. Looking back it is stunning how this all fits so exactly. To know about the background also helps to understand why people are acting in a certain way. I loved to read that you’ve had a very passionate and fiery relationship 💖

    • I had an aunt who read Tarot for us as teens. I was skeptical, but some of the things she mentioned actually came true for me. She reminded me of that years later. Thanks, Erika. 💝

What I always find so profound about that tarot card reading is that it nails things and confirms or makes clear what you actually know deep inside. To me it is not necessarily a way to tell the future but more to see how things are and get an outlook how things could be if I follow that path. But anyway, it is stunning! Thank you for bringing up such thoughts in your post. That was very insiring 💖

      • My pleasure. Thanks for your input, as always, Erika. 💕

I am a Sag too! Life is never dull for us that’s for sure. 💕

  8. Great post! I’ve always had the same fascination. As others have commented, it most likely is hocus pocus. But I say…. who cares?!? Just have fun with it! I sure do. I’m a Sag & everything about me is on fire.🎉💃

  9. I don’t have much knowledge of astrology, but I’m a Virgo. That’s not a bad thing, I guess…. 😀 😛

  10. I don’t understand much regarding signs and such. But I like the possibility of it all. It is quite fascinating.

Reblogged this on Lost Dudeist Astrology.

  12. I’m a Leo, adored by my devoted Sagittarius husband. We each have our own realms.

  13. When I think of Leo, I always think of “the life of the party.” Dynamic, social, outgoing, warm. Fire and air signs are supposed to be compatible but I can see that there would be a lot of ENERGY in such a household (ha ha). My family is all Earth and Water. We rarely get energetic about anything. Obviously, I used to play with astrology in my twenties too. A fun post, Van!

Wonderful! I always say I picked up my first astrology book in grade school, and I’ve never put it down. I’m a Sag, as are The Mister and Moo. Bubba and Sissy are Aries. Sassy’s the odd air sign, and perhaps that’s okay, since she’s a middler. We have a pile of Leos in our lives. I always get on well with Leos. 😀

Scorpio here. I used to follow astrology when I read the local papers. Two of my kids are Leo’s and they seem to fit the description.

  16. Wow very interesting Van! I have never gotten into this much but it sure holds truth in many ways!

  17. I am a typical Leo – good traits and bad 😊

  21. Wonderful post.. Funny, I do not have any lions in our family.. I do have a few scorpions, Twins, and Fishes, Me well I am the Bull.. 🙂 But without the horns.. 🙂 unless that is some one holds a red rag and waves it in my face.. 😉
I can also relate to the tarot and Ouija boards, but we used cards with letters and an upturned glass. 🙂
Never did the Levitation, but have gone into trance where my feet rose while sitting 🙂
I have Always have been Weird 😉

Love and Hugs to you Van..
    Sue ❤

    • I sometimes wonder about my family’s early fascination. Many of my ancestors were Magyar (Hungarian) and maybe even gypsies ? Thanks, Sue. 💘

      • I think it was a phase in the 60’s ( Flower Power- Love and Peace times ) certainly I remember at school at break times when no teachers were about crowds of us spreading cards and upturned glass on desks.. 🙂
Never mastered Palm Reading though 😉 😀 ..
Then in the late 90’s 30 yrs on another serge in awakening..
I hope there is another Spiritual Surge on the cards real soon 🙂
Love and Light my friend xxx
